Our day starts with a 1h30min tranfer to Granada. We arrive to one of the most beautifull cities in Spain and its history, architecture and geographical location come together to highlight its importance. Where else can you find a huge Arabian palace with imposing snowy mountains in the background? Let’s stay for the day, rest and prepare for the kilometers to come.
¡Bienvenidos! Welcome to Málaga!! We arrive to one of the oldest cities in the world. Yes, it’s true! The archaeological remains and monuments from the Phoenician, Roman, Arabic and Christian eras make the historic center of the city an "open museum", displaying its history of nearly 3,000 years.
Let’s ride!! Up and down we go, hundreds of meters, but believe that it’s not in vain. Some kilometers ahead we will find the famous “Alpujarra” slopes, with green and fertile valeys where they graze animals and fruit trees abound. Many picturesque villages also took advantage of these slopes and as we go we will pass through them until arriving at Capileira.
Last day is here and the feeling of accomplishment as well. Our legs hurt, our bodies are tired but looking back one last time to the hills of Sierra Nevada, we know everything was worth it and this memory will stay with us forever. It’s time to pack and return home with a smile on our faces.
(Transfer back to Malaga’s airport - 1h30 ride)
Today's goal is to return to the beautifull city of Granada. Less kilometers to ride and also less altitude makes us enjoy more of the scenery. On our way we find the Castle of Lajaron and the Béznar Water Reservoir. Enjoy the road and save some strength because tomorrow will be challenging.
We leave Granada behind and pedal in the direction of the biggest mountains in the Iberian Peninsula. Here we start with some uphills but as we go we also start to see the wonderfull landscapes that we can only find in the south of Spain. We will go through Quéntar and its water reservoire that will bring some shine on our path. La Peza and other little villages will show us their cultivated fields and when we arrive to La Calahorra a magnificient castle will surprise us with its beauty.
Today is the Day! The day when everything you did is little and everything that will come will take you to the limit! Let’s climb to the peak next to Granada, Pico Del Veleta. This is the second highest altitude in Sierra Nevada and only 98km to go. The challenge is tough and the uphills as well but there is always an alternative. If this trip was hard on you, stop at the 70km mark and enjoy the view.
